Herend Amateur Artists' Circle
- 05. March 2003. - 27. April 2003.
The Herend Amateur Artists' Circle was founded in 1999 with funding from the Vince Stingl Cultural and Social Foundation.
It was founded with the purpose of extending the professional knowledge and expertise of art enthusiasts among the employees of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory and imbuing them with new outlooks. They were assisted by two artist-instructors, Tibor Kádár and Katalin Szávoszt. The theoretical instruction has been concerned with development of three-dimensional awareness and expansion of members' knowledge of art terms and techniques and art history.
Great emphasis has been placed on developing drawing skills and spatial perception, sculptural representation in three dimensions, and study of light and shade.
There has been prime consideration in the instruction of developing artistic knowledge. Analysis of works of art has brought an acquaintance with the painting techniques, composition rules, visual idiom and expressive force of colour in various periods (Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism, Realism and Impressionism). Alongside all this, there has been time devoted to teaching and applying the theory of colour, for instance in painting monochrome (red, yellow, blue) pictures. The theoretical classes have been followed by practical ones: acquaintance with landscape, and translation of landscape into a picture in situ.
At present, the members of the Circle are assisted by the painter Tibor Kádár.
The Circle has held exhibitions in the foyer of Herend Arts Centre every year since its inception.
The contributors do not have a specific, uniform line of approach.
Their purpose is study. All of them are seeking their own 'path' and the techniques and style appropriate to their personalities.
