The Count Apponyi Palace Hotel in Hőgyész gave home to the tenth leg of the travelling exhibition of Herend porcelain and the reunion of the Apponyi’s.
On display is a far broader range of Apponyi pattern porcelain than at any of the other venues in the exhibition series. The exhibition was opened by Albert Apponyi’s grandson, István Pálffy, with the Apponyi String Quartet providing special musical ambiance for the event.
One of the Hotel’s owners, László Piros, greeted guests attending the opening ceremony at which Melinda Hegedűs, Herend Porcelain Manufactory’s Chief Financial Officer talked about the Manufactory’s history, highlighting the special contribution of Mór Fischer, one of the founders of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory, in steering it to prosperity.
István Pálffy’s opening remarks were a nostalgic tribute to fond childhood memories of family life, including dining from the finest Herend porcelain. The Apponyi String Quartet closed this festive event with a recital of the Reiterquartet, which Joseph Haydn had dedicated to the Apponyi family.
Housed in the Korona Hall on the ground floor of the Hotel, the exhibition is open to visitors until mid-March.
