50 million respected players around the world. A ball game – mentioned as early as 1457 – with grand traditions. In Hungary it made its debut in 1902, introduced by Count Géza Andrássy. Its impact as an agent of change on lifestyle, leisure pursuit, and consciousness are undeniable. It is enough to go out on the golf course a couple of times, and play 18 holes embraced by mother nature, casually walking as much as 7 kilometres, away from noise and running around, to be swept up by the passion.

Herend was able to identify with this lifestyle, the golf life-sensation; it has taken an excursion into the world of golf that lasted for many years, between 2000 and 2005. After a hiatus of a few years, it has now returned again.

Golf and Herend have met yet again.

The newly founded Royal Balaton Golf and Yacht Club played host to the Herend Balaton Golf Cup tournament in Balatonudvari, in an unparalleled natural environment, with an amazing view of Lake Balaton and an exciting course on Sunday, August 24, 2008. Even the weather was gracious to the tournament, and visitors and others interested could root for not only the competitors, but could also admire the unbelievable skilfulness of Herend painters. Nail decoration was offered as part of the program, where not only Herend motifs but individual desires were also satisfied – naturally golf clubs being the most popular choice – verifying the fact: the masters of Herend do not know the meaning of impossible! The additional programs – coach rides, Audi test drives, Lush cosmetics and Halasi Csipke (Halas Lace) exhibition – also attracted numerous visitors.

The competitors were competing for truly valuable trophies, as 3 Herend vases were the trophies for the 3 main categories.

A family day, enthusiastic people just encountering golf for the first time, holiday goers, friends of Herend, and the lovers of golf met on the first golf course on the shores of Lake Balaton, which also adjoins the Balaton-felvidéki National Park

Such an astonishing harmony of concentration, technique and attention is required on the golf course, that it elevates the game into the king of sports. It is these exact traits that the magic of porcelain could never be made without in the porcelain painting workshops, decorating for over 180 years the china cabinets of emperors, kings, prominent citizens, and those who desire perfection – and now they have become the trophies for the very best. The perception of golf and Herend has so many common points and crossroads that this cooperation and the repeated resurrection of the Herend Golf Cup was an evident decision and intent, the success of which is verified by this last tournament.
