Many hundreds of entries were submitted to the photo competition of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory, thus the professional judges’ panel, and presumably the voters on the internet as well, even though it sounds like a cliché, was in a truly difficult position in having to make choice as to which photos were the most creative and most special. This is how it could happen that in addition to the advertised awards, three applicants have earned special awards. The core principle, according to which the judges’ panel was looking for creative ideas and works that depicted Herend pieces in a manner different from previous depictions, also played a significant role in the decision. All entered works were exhibited at the Herend Porcelain Museum and the award-winning photographs remain there and may be viewed throughout December. The award celebration was held on November 16th, at the concluding ceremony of the Autumn Festival of Museums. At that time we handed over our gifts in person to winners who were present, while the rest received them by post.

The winning works were as follows:
A special prize was awarded, for creative ideas, to: Mr. Imre Wimmer. In addition to his picture depicting numerous Herend objects, his most outstanding photograph, unfortunately, does not show a Herend piece. We awarded him with a package of Herend publications.
Mr. Ákos Tamás earned a special prize for a unique solution. His picture, ‘Kézkívánatra’ [a pun on the Hungarian expression ‘közkívánatra (by public demand)] was awarded by the judge’s panel. Also, Mr. Zsolt Bak, whose photograph representing a cup decorated with a Persian miniature was chosen for display. They earned an Apicius gift certificate.

Mrs. Máriás Bernadett Boross earned the viewer’s choice award with a photograph of an extraordinary Herend geisha taken in a special locale. Her prize, in addition to a Herend porcelain gift and Apicius gift certificate, is the gift package of the Szentgotthárd Thermal Park. Consequently, the winner will have the opportunity to immerse herself in the world of Mediterranean luxury at this unique facility.

According to the evaluation of the judges’ panel, the third prize, and thereby the winner of the valuable package of publications by the Herend Porcelain Manufactory, was awarded Dr. Erzsebet Karakó, who had magically juxtaposed one of Herend’s most well known decors with nature.

Mr. Tamás Böröcz was the runner-up of the competition. He has entered the competition with a Lenin figurine made in Herend. In his pictures, in addition to the piece itself, he also played bravely with the lights and special effects. His prize is a Herend porcelain gift and an Apicius gifts certificate.

According to the unanimous opinion of the judges’ panel, the grand-prize-winner of the photography competition of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory is Irén Udvarházi. Heartfelt congratulations to her! Two of her pictures are decidedly exceptional masterpieces. The one where a Herend décor is being created and the original idea where a bird looks at the treasures of Herend in amazement. The grand-prize-winner and her partner can spend a magical weekend at the Hasik Hotel, half-board provided, and have dinner at the Apicius restaurant. Moreover, she is now the proud owner of a Herend porcelain, which gives her the opportunity to take even more brilliant photographs. We thank all participants and our congratulations go out to the winners! Look at our posts, visit our website, without a doubt there will be other comparable competitions in the future.
