Contestants' knowledge of the Tokaj-Hegyalja region as well as their wine serving skills were put to the test at the competition held in Herend for the sixth time.
The organisers, Herend Porcelain Manufactory Ltd, the Wine Society and its Alsóörs partner, SOMAPINCE, chose the most famous Hungarian wine region for the topic of the competition.
A written test was followed by classic wine serving tasks: contestants were asked to open a bottle of wine and simultaneously explain about its origin, then pour it smoothly, equally dividing half a litre between six glasses. The contestants' theoretical knowledge was exemplary, but the practical task clearly presented a challenge to all of them: some ran out of the wine already at the fifth glass.
Eventually the competition was won by Norbert Holy from Apicius Restaurant, with Attila Buday (Betekints Restaurant, Veszprém) and Ildikó Stéber (Kokó Cake Shop) as runners-up.
