The name Rothschild evokes affluence and wealth and, in the case of Herend porcelain, since 1860, the Rothschild pattern has been an allusion to its most prominent buyer.
The playful and merry pair of birds has been a popular decoration in every era as the ancient symbol of man and woman in love and unity.
Evoking a splendid golden age, the old Herend motif depicting the playful pair of birds is now 150 years old. Greatly successful in the past, the pattern now celebrates its birthday, renewed and retooled in diverse ways for those respecting traditional values. At the largest trade show of the porcelain industry in Frankfurt, a one-metre high vase inspired by the Rothschild pattern was presented as a proud testament to porcelain craftsmanship. This masterpiece, whose snow-white sheen draws the attention all the more to the challenges and brilliance of its making, was one of the most spectacular objects of art on display at our stand. It is a genuinely unique piece that is very hard to replicate. Additionally, numerous decorations showcase this ancient symbolic motif in tune with the taste of the new millennium, from the redesign already launched last year through this year’s festive patterns to the representation of its main motif – the bird – in different figurines.
This is how, in 2010, the Herend Porcelain Manufactory celebrates and commemorates its popular motif and the first customer who ordered it.
